Notes from January 18th Mission Design Meeting

Thank you to the Westminster Presbyterian Church and Church at the Center communities for your participation on Wednesday nights! The Mission Design Team is excited by both the participation and the energy that each of you brings to the discussion.
Whether or not you are able to attend the Wednesday night gatherings, we want to invite you to enter into the process, prayer, and dialogue. To further our conversations around the mission and values of the new church God is forming among us, we want to offer you this short summary of this past week’s topic, and provide a few additional questions for further reflection.
A short recap of Wednesday January 18th:
What are core values anyway? And how do they relate to having a mission as a church?
Values are the deep-held principles that guide us in developing and in executing a mission as a church. If the mission is the what, the values are the how we will get there.
Mixing together the mission, the values, and us (the congregations of CATC and WPC) … you get the culture of the new church.
Both of our churches currently hold core values that we have chosen to guide our decisions, ministry, and congregational life. As we look over what we have agreed on in the past, we know that in some areas we excel, and in others we fall significantly short. On this road to becoming the new church, we have the opportunity to embrace and live into the values that we find in scripture and that God has given to our community as core principles for our worship, service, and life together.
Questions for further thought:
We encourage you to take these questions and pray about them, journal about them, and talk with friends and family about them. Why not ask a total stranger, or maybe someone of a different generation than you, to give you their heartfelt answers.....

Why is this new church we are becoming important to God?

Can you think of something Jesus said, did, or a story Jesus told, that shows us what has great value in the kingdom of God? What is one thing that we can do as a new church to weave that value into our life together?

Imagine you bring a friend to the new church for the first time. What is one word you are hoping they would use to describe their experience in church?
May God give you eyes to see his presence, and ears to hear his voice, as we walk this road together!
