Jesus said …

I am the Gate
John 10:7-10

We are making our way through a series of extraordinary claims that Jesus makes about himself in the Gospel of John. Some of these claims are comforting, some of them are confronting. With the advantage of a 2006 perspective, we often look at scripture and think we know what’s coming or think we already know everything we need to know about Jesus. As we think through these claims of Christ, we have the opportunity to allow scripture to engage us in a new way. Entering into Jesus’ words, receiving comfort and embracing challenges, we will come away with a new experience of the life-transforming good news of Jesus Christ.

As you reflect this week on John 10:7-10 and Jesus’ claim to be THE gate for the sheep, I would invite you to think about the following questions:

*How do you experience the protection and provision of Jesus as you enter the gate, or as you trust him with your life?
*What is easy for you to believe about Jesus being the gate for the sheep? How is that a hard word to hear?
*How would your life (i.e. conversations, use of time, friendships, faith) be different if you lived in the conviction that Jesus is THE gate?

Please take some time to pray this week for the people in your life or in our world who don’t yet know of the deep love of God and the desire of God to shelter and protect them through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Perhaps you can approach this by praying in two areas:
1. thanksgiving for where you see the lives of people being transformed by the grace of Christ
2. prayers of petition for the people you know who don’t yet know how passionately God loves them

In Christ,
Heather
